SPS 2022 in Nuremberg: The Open Industry 4.0 Alliance shows how digital transformation can be achieved quickly in real-life situations

Globally active companies and German SMEs are constantly working within the Alliance in technical working groups on the creation of guidelines for various industrial sectors

Reinach, Switzerland, 19.10.2022The Open Industry 4.0 Alliance will be at SPS 2022, in Hall 5 at Stand 160, which takes place from 8 to 10 November in Nuremberg. The Alliance will present real-life examples and use cases for smart and digital automation within diverse sectors such as logistics, the process industry and mechanical engineering, to interested delegates. The focus will be on the practical application and sensible orchestration of a wide range of industry standards. In addition, the Alliance will cover three technological topics during the event: The implementation of the Asset Administration Shell (AAS) and the expansion of Data Spaces and Edge Computing. The Alliance will also highlight why it is becoming increasingly international and oriented towards the end customers of its members and provide information on the progress and expansion of its industry and technology working groups.

"By showing smart production cases at SPS we continue staying true to our motto: 'Talkers talk, we implement'," explains Ekrem Yigitdöl, Managing Director of the Open Industry 4.0 Alliance. "As an alliance of practitioners, our members are constantly developing use cases for many industries and creating associated guidelines. The starting point is connectivity on the factory floor, as we have already been able to demonstrate in a case for logistics, for example, with two initial members, and the Flow Loop in the sustainability factory in the Netherlands with a total of 11 members directly or indirectly involved. These two projects are outstanding in their speed of implementation, and we have awarded them the Implementation Award of the Alliance."

The Alliance's implementation guidelines are constantly being developed, and initial examples can be found in the download section of the website. These include 'Technical Solution Design Principles', 'Industrial Cyber Security Design Principles' and 'Asset Administration Shell AAS'.

Customers of Alliance members, who often come from globally operating, medium-sized industries, are increasingly interested in such implementation guidelines, which, together with the experience of Alliance members, promise accelerated and successful implementation of transformation projects.

"The Alliance is increasingly focusing on internationalisation in order to keep up the pace in implementing exciting projects and to be able to share experiences from other countries with our members and their end customers," says Ekrem Yigitdöl. "Our working groups and members are also becoming always more active. As a result, we are implementing more projects and can share their results for better implementation. We also benefit from the fact that our newly introduced series of C-level events for end customers, such as the one with Dunkermotoren at the end of October, gives us a precise understanding of the challenges and pain points in the market and enables us to address suitable solutions.”

About the Open Industry 4.0 Alliance:

The Open Industry 4.0 Alliance acts as a partnership association of leading industrial companies that pragmatically participate in the implementation of cross-vendor industry 4.0 solutions and services for manufacturing plants and automated warehouses. In industry and technology working groups, industry experts develop use cases and implement them technically based on the OI4 reference architecture. These solutions, along with implementation guides, are shared in the community and made available outside the Alliance. The Alliance was launched in April 2019. The seat of the association is Reinach, Switzerland.
