What’s that
about?
We have joined the OPEN InnoCommunity, coordinated by the Virtual Automation Lab (VAL) at Hochschule Esslingen.
The OPEN InnoCommunity is one of several Innovationscommunities established under the DATIpilot funding guideline of the German Federal Ministry of Education and Research (BMBF). It connects companies, research institutions, and software providers to jointly develop digitally assisted, manufacturer-independent solutions for industrial automation and production.
The OPEN Community operates as an open ecosystem with transparent participation. Ideas are submitted, discussed, and evaluated during public Hyper-Pitch-Days. Members can contribute ideas, vote on project proposals, and collaboratively shape the strategy and roadmap. Becoming a member is intentionally simple – currently, it can be done by directly contacting the management team at Hochschule Esslingen.
Through our participation, we support the creation of an open, commercially viable ecosystem for solution finding in complex, heterogeneous production environments.
We bring in our experience and reference architectures in areas such as Asset Administration Shells (AAS), Digital Twins, and data-driven service models, linking practical implementation with applied research and academic development.
The next Hyper-Pitch-Day will take place on 2 December 2025 in Augsburg (hosted by CADENAS).
Further Community Workshops will follow, where members jointly refine the OPEN strategy and roadmap.
More information about the OPEN InnoCommunity and the application process is available on the Virtual Automation Lab website:

What’s in for
our members?
Being part of the OPEN InnoCommunity gives our members new opportunities to connect innovation ideas with public funding and academic partners. Together with the management team at Hochschule Esslingen, we can help prepare and position project ideas for upcoming Hyper-Pitch-Days – from defining the use case to aligning it with the DATIpilot framework.
This enables our community to turn ideas into funded projects faster, with direct access to expert guidance and a growing ecosystem of partners from industry and research.
