Driving industry
forward together
The Proactive Asset Administration Shell project examined how Asset Administration Shells (AAS) can be extended beyond static data exchange to include explicitly modeled behavior. While AAS are commonly used to structure and share asset information, logic such as validation, event triggering, or operational handling is usually implemented outside the model in application code.
The project addressed this limitation by investigating rule-based approaches for describing AAS behavior in a transparent and reusable way. The work focused on how declarative, machine-readable rules can be linked to AAS elements in order to validate property changes, trigger events and operations, and implement internal update logic across properties and submodels.
Based on these investigations and practical evaluations, the project resulted in a submodel proposal that consolidates the developed concepts into a structured, cross-domain model. The proposal defines standardized, executable rules for AAS behavior and is currently under review.
