looking back
2 1/2 YEARS
After two and a half years, the consortium phase of Factory‑X has officially come to an end. During the final event in Berlin, 47 consortium partners and 10 associated partners reflected on the project’s achievements and discussed how its results will now be transferred into industrial practice.
Factory‑X has laid the foundations for an open, secure and interoperable data space for factory equipment manufacturers and operators. Across eleven use cases, the project developed and validated technologies, standards and operational concepts that enable trusted data exchange between companies and create the basis for scalable Industrial AI applications.
Beyond the technical results, Factory‑X demonstrated what can be achieved when industry, research and associations work together towards a common goal. The project created not only new technologies, but also a strong network that will continue driving Manufacturing‑X forward.

What the oi4
did in f‑x

As the Open Industry 4.0 Alliance, we are proud to have supported Factory‑X in several key roles throughout the project.
From the very beginning, we were represented in the Steering Committee, helping shape the strategic direction of the project. Our team also took responsibility for major parts of the Administrative and Project Management Office (APMO), supporting collaboration across one of the largest Manufacturing‑X projects. This included organizing consortium meetings, workshops and public events, managing collaboration platforms and user administration, coordinating communication activities, and ensuring that information, tools and project results were accessible across the consortium.
In parallel, we contributed to the project’s technical work. Within Technical Project 4, we supported the development of the technical foundations for interoperable industrial data exchange. As the lead of Technical Project 7, we focused on connecting Factory‑X with the broader Manufacturing‑X ecosystem, coordinating with related initiatives, strengthening international collaboration and helping bring the project’s results to a wider industrial audience.
Over and Out?
Nope.
Completing the consortium phase is an important milestone, but it is only the beginning of the next chapter. The technologies, standards and concepts developed in Factory‑X have now proven their value. The focus now shifts from developing solutions to implementing them at scale.
For industrial data spaces to deliver their full potential, companies need to adopt the technologies, integrate them into existing production environments and continue building on common standards. This is particularly important as Industrial AI becomes increasingly relevant. Trusted, interoperable and high-quality data is the foundation for AI applications that can be deployed across company boundaries and throughout industrial value chains.
The collaboration established within Factory‑X will continue through Manufacturing‑X and related initiatives, ensuring that the project’s results evolve beyond the consortium and become part of a broader industrial ecosystem.

As the Open Industry 4.0 Alliance, we remain committed to supporting this next phase. Together with our members and partners, we will continue driving interoperability, promoting open standards and helping transfer the project’s results into practical industrial applications.
We would like to thank all 47 consortium partners, 10 associated partners, the Federal Ministry for Economic Affairs and Energy, the consortium leads Siemens and SAP, and everyone who contributed through the Steering Committee, Project Management, APMO and the technical work packages. We are proud to have been part of Factory‑X and look forward to continuing this journey together.
