WHY THIS PROJECT
MATTERS AND FOR WHO
For businesses, the DPP offers:
- Optimized Resource Use: longer product lifetimes, improved repairability, and reduced waste.
- Regulatory Compliance: alignment with EU sustainability regulations.
- Efficiency and Cost Savings: reducing effort by reusing practices and streamlining processes.
- Competitive Advantage: better decision-making, supply chain transparency, and new value streams.
This matters for manufacturers, distributors, and their partners alike. By turning regulation into opportunity, companies can strengthen both compliance and business outcomes.

WHAT WE
made happen
- Defined a practical DPP framework that is feasible, scalable, and industry-ready.
- Explored best practices to minimize complexity and leverage synergies across industries.
- Built infrastructure concepts to support secure data exchange while ensuring data ownership and sovereignty.
- Addressed lifecycle challenges such as change management and evolving product data.
- Integrated the DPP with the AAS for a standardized, digital-first approach.
What Is the OI4 Next Bike and How Does It Connect to DPP?
The OI4 Next Bike is a demonstration project within the OI4 Alliance that showcases how DPP can be applied to real-world products. It is used to:
- Illustrate DPP concepts in a tangible way, tracking materials, lifecycle data, and sustainability metrics.
- Test and refine best practices for data integration, cross-company collaboration, and regulatory compliance.
- Demonstrate how DPP connects with the Asset Administration Shell (AAS) to enable structured data management across product lifecycles.
- By using the Next Bike as a working example, OI4 Alliance members gain practical insights into how DPP can be implemented across industries.

#better
together
The Digital Product Passport is more than a regulatory duty. It’s a foundation for cooperation that turns transparency, sustainability, and compliance into shared value.
The value lies in collaboration: companies can adopt a common framework, reuse best practices, and connect data securely across product lifecycles. What starts as meeting requirements can evolve into streamlined processes, trusted supply chain insights, and a competitive edge.
This is not just policy compliance, but an invitation to shape the future. Together we can turn regulation into opportunity, making product data more accessible, sustainable, and interoperable.
