Factory‑X Use Case Challenge at the Hannover Messe 2025

What we
made happen

Together with our Member conplement, we developed an interactive app that brought Factory‑X to life at the event. As part of our contribution to the Factory‑X initiative, the Open Industry 4.0 Alliance helped create a playful yet purposeful experience: by scanning QR codes at selected demonstrators, visitors could unlock detailed insights into real Factory‑X use cases, accessible here: https://factory‑x.org/projects/. This not only sparked curiosity but also created a natural way to connect with experts behind the initiative.

About Factory‑X

Factory‑X brings together 46 core and 10 associated partners from industry, research, and associations to build an open digital ecosystem for factory outfitters and operators. The initiative is based on the principles of Catena‑X and Plattform Industrie 4.0 and aims to establish a viable industrial dataspace. The project is funded by the the Federal Ministry for Economic Affairs and Energy.

The role of the OI4 Alliance in Factory‑X

We are a funded partner in Factory‑X and contribute to the project on several levels. Our team is involved in project management, technical architecture, knowledge transfer, and the coordination of Factory‑X within the broader Manufacturing‑X initiative. As a community, we bring in practical experience from industrial environments and help translate concepts like dataspaces into workable solutions. Our goal is to support both the success of the project and the ability of our member companies to actively participate in and benefit from the emerging ecosystem.

and q&a

What was the purpose of the F‑X Walk Challenge at Hannover Messe 2025?
The F‑X Walk Challenge aimed to make Factory‑X use cases accessible in a playful and engaging way. By scanning QR codes along the exhibition route, visitors could explore real Factory‑X applications, connect directly with experts, and even win prizes.
Who is behind the Factory‑X initiative?
Factory‑X is driven by a consortium of 46 partners and 10 associated partners, including manufacturers, associations, and research institutions. The initiative is supported by the German Ministry for Economic Affairs and Climate Action.
How is the Open Industry 4.0 Alliance involved in Factory‑X?
As a funded partner, the OI4 Alliance contributes to Factory‑X by coordinating subprojects such as technical architecture, project management, and knowledge transfer. It also plays a key role in aligning Factory‑X activities with the broader Manufacturing‑X initiative.
What are the technical foundations of Factory‑X?
Factory‑X establishes a standardized technical architecture that supports secure, interoperable data exchange across companies. The “M‑X Port Concept” is a central enabler for cross-company data sharing. More info here.
Why should companies care about Factory‑X and dataspaces?

Dataspaces open up new business models and improve operational efficiency by overcoming data silos. Factory‑X provides a scalable blueprint for secure collaboration in manufacturing, helping companies prepare for the future of industrial data ecosystems.
