The participants learned why the Digital Data Chain is becoming a business requirement rather than a future vision, and what this means for suppliers of industrial equipment. The webinar explained how leading operators in the Digital Data Chain Consortium (DDCC) increasingly expect product information to be provided digitally, in a standardized and machine-readable format. Companies that continue to rely on isolated documents and manual processes risk creating inefficiencies and, over time, falling behind evolving customer requirements.
The session showed how the Digital Data Chain enables automated information exchange throughout the lifecycle of industrial assets by replacing manual document searches with structured, connected data. Participants gained an overview of the technical building blocks required for this approach, including globally unique product identification based on IEC 61406, standardized digital documentation according to VDI 2770 and mechanisms for exchanging product information between manufacturers and operators.
A major focus was on practical implementation. Christian Günther demonstrated how digital identities, stable product links and central registries help create reliable access to product information, while standardized documentation and structured metadata ensure that documents remain machine-readable and easy to integrate into digital workflows. Rather than presenting theory alone, the webinar discussed how these concepts can be introduced as part of an achievable implementation architecture.
Throughout the webinar, participants completed an interactive readiness assessment that encouraged them to evaluate their own organizations. The questions covered topics such as digital product identities, ID governance, documentation quality, structured metadata and automation, helping attendees identify where they are already prepared and where additional work may be required to support a Digital Data Chain.
