Thank you for joining our Security Hackathon/ Workshop on Public Key Infrastructures
On May 27, we met at Demofabrik Siegen for a full day dedicated to hands-on PKI implementation and knowledge exchange.
Participants explored how to apply Public Key Infrastructure to different layers of the industrial ecosystem, guided by the Open Industry 4.0 architecture. The day combined compact input sessions, practical collaboration, and open dialogue among experts and members onsite. It was not just about talking security, but building it.
Our Focus Tracks Included
• Edge Device Security using PKI – securing devices in the field
• Secure MQTT Communication – applying PKI to AAS-based use cases like Product Change Notification
• PKI Lifecycle Management – addressing real-world challenges like certificate renewal and offline infrastructure
The agenda was shaped by contributions from our community. Many participants brought their own challenges and ideas, helping us work through concrete security questions relevant to OI4 implementations. This collaborative spirit made the event highly practical and directly applicable.
We thank everyone who contributed ideas ahead of time and took part in the alignment session on May 20. Also, thanks to those who prepared by joining our earlier webinar on May 6: Digital Certificates and Keys as a Necessary Foundation for Cybersecurity in IoT and OT.
